see that little shiny thing behind my ear there? that thing has been a major source of shame for me. i’m just getting over the embarrassment of seeing it in photographs. it’s practically sewn into my skull so you’d think that i’d get used to it after so many years. i think it’s been 8+ years now. for those of you know don’t know already - i’m Deaf. that little device there is a chochlear implant. the shock of seeing something behind my ears in my childhood and current photographs still disturbs me deeply. but i’m getting there.
someone once told me that if i didn’t have the chochlear implants, that I would be a beautiful girl.
